Florence. The pinnacle of history, culture, and beauty. A city filled with the most mesmerizing people, and infinite memories that have been captured by every walk of life that enters.

But I’m not biased or anything…

Spending a semester of my college career in Florence, Italy is an insurmountable experience that has never left my mind.

There are not enough words to explain how special of a city it is, but I can try to sum it up with as much brevity as possible.

Although this may be the most difficult consolidation of favorites, I’ll share a few of my most frequented restaurants and cafes.

Restaurants:

Aqua al 2 - The blueberry steak is a non-negotiable. Don’t let the name get to you. I promise you won’t regret it. They also offer an amazing deal that allows you to taste a variety of steaks, salads, or pasta from their menu throughout the course of your meal. You cannot beat it!

Trattoria 4 Leoni - Another meal that may sound like a non-traditional combination of flavors, is their Pear Pasta dish. There is nothing like it. They’re known for this, and their Florentine Steak. If you get nothing out of Florence (impossible), at least make sure you try this.

Buca Lapi - Michelin Star restaurant that has been around since 1886 has impeccable food, service, and ambiance. The restaurant that never ends! Wine cellars, dessert carts, and the famous Grandma Isabella’s freshly made lasagna are not passable opportunities.

Cafes:

Simbiosi - A cozy escape from the city life, just a few blocks away from the Duomo. This quaint cafe is the perfect spot to get work done, or just sit in comfort enjoying a delectable cappuccino.

Vecchio Forno - For your authentic cafe fix, come here. You will experience the charm of a language barrier; there’s charm. You’ll be greeted by the wholesome, Daisy, before tasting the freshest of pastries you’ve had— no coffee here though, so go back across the street to Simbiosi.

Cafe Gilli - The oldest cafe in Florence! Located right in the heart of Piazza Della Repubblica, you’ll be able to enjoy your order at any time of day by watching the carousel go around, or the famous street performers.
